Christmas Present catch-up – Mini Minions

Hello

Following my previous post http://wp.me/p385yc-vr, I knew my boys would love a Mini-Minion to add to their collection so I set to making another 2 to add to their Christmas presents.

Being small, they didn’t take that long to crochet. What takes the time with these is sewing all the components together.

It’s funny how with every attempt I find improvements. With this version I think I have cracked the goggles… I wonder how many more I need to do before I perfect it all together…. None I will be quite happy if I don’t see another Minion for a while. However, saying that I would like to make an even more minature one and have as a handbag charm.

Here is how I made them..

I started with a tube body.

added eyes and arms

made dungarees with legs and straps

and lastly the goggles

I hope you like them.

With another weekend looming, I am rushed off my feet getting kids ready to go back to school, but more importantly it’s my eldest sons birthday next week.

You may remember my younger son had a birthday recently and I did this for him http://wp.me/p385yc-mR. So, I thought it only fair (albeit he is going to be 12) that I make another one.

Many will know I get bored very easily so I didn’t want to do the same again and instead opted for this variety from the second movie.

I will award bonus points to all those who notice the deliberate mistakes, as follows:

1. The hair should be purple (but I ran out of wool so had to substitute….ooops)

2. I forgot the buttons on the dungarees (I will put this right before I wrap it)

I hope you like it. More importantly I hope oldest son likes it.

WOW what a busy morning it is when there’s a birthday in the house, but anyway I would love to share some more pictures of my crochet Minion together with his new owner, the birthday boy himself.

And lastly, here is his birthday card, which I only just managed to finish in time. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute.

I am bursting with excitement for my little boy’s birthday tomorrow. I say little, he will be 10 years old and he’s a great big tall lanky skinny thing.

Anyway, I have been beavering away making a crochet Minion for him and I have finished it and I have to show someone or else I will explode. But knowing I can trust you to keep a secret, here is my minion……

I initially searched the internet for pictures of minions to use as a resource and I stumbled upon this pattern: http://www.allaboutami.com/post/11585794742/minionpattern which has worked really well, although I did change a few things slightly. So all credit to Stephanie for her design. Her blog is really worth checking out as she has lots of other really great designs there.

All of his clothes are removable but I tacked them on permanently so they don’t go awol.

My biggest issue with making him, unsurprisingly was my stupid big puppy who thinks its fun to run off with EVERYTHING, so in a very safe place I will put my minion …. until tomorrow.

Must hide him before the puppy runs off with him AGAIN……

I will post more pictures tomorrow when I’m not trying to hide him.
